Key stages
Early Year's Unit
This is aimed at the group 2 years and 9 months to 5 years old. The teaching is done through play and structured activities. Pupils will work with our Early Year's teacher and Pædagogs to learn how to become independent learners. The curriculum follows the guidelines from the Foundation Stage for England.
Keystage 1: The lower group 5-7 years
The classroom will be set up so that children can learn through role play, experimenting and interacting with each other. The children will have teaching input as a group, then given differentiated tasks, according to their ability. The interactive displays and themed role play areas will extend their learning experiences. Many activities will be practical and fun to engage the imagination of the pupils. As the children reach the end of the lower school they will be prepared for working and listening for longer periods of time.
Basic homework will be given, such as a reading book and weekly spellings.
Keystage 2: The Junior class 7-11 years
It is known that children learn in different ways. A variety of teaching
methods will be used to ensure the children succeed. The children will
experience investigating problems together, group work, individual research and
whole teaching to ensure they can learn in different situations. The curriculum
will be differentiated to meet the needs of each child. Targets given will
support their learning.
Practical activities such as drama, experiments and
field work will be used to enhance understanding. The aim is to support the
children in their learning so they have the correct skills research and learn
independently. Homework activities will support the curriculum.
Keystage 3: The Lower Secondary 11-14 years
Here the child builds on all the skills previously taught. There will be a variety of teaching methods used and a programme of study given to each pupil. Each student will use information and communication technology across the curriculum to ensure their skills are used for a given purpose. Programmes such as Excel can enhance Maths skills and databases are useful in History. The pupils will use subject specific rooms such as the Science laboratory or design technology to support learning.
The pupils will be given positive feedback and targets to support their learning. Homework will be set regularly for each subject to secure and extend their knowledge and thinking skills.
Keystage 4: The IGCSE group 14 - 16 years
The IGCSE course is for the older students who are confident in using English. The two year programme is demanding and requires the students to work hard. It is expected that the pupils will do a minimum of 1.5 hours of homework per day. The pupils choose some subjects but English, Mathematics, Science, Danish and Physical Education are compulsory.
Which Keystage for my child?
The student placement into a Keystage is determined by their date of birth. If you are unsure which group they will be placed in, there is a table here showing date of birth and keystage.
