INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Winter weather

Each winter, we have some days when the weather affects safe travel. When road conditions are a concern, school staff gathers information from a variety of sources to decide if it is safe to transport our students and staff to school. We currently have pupils and staff travelling up to two hours each way to school therefore we must plan, should conditions become dangerous.

Since we would only close if absolutely necessary, the decision is often delayed until we have a fuller picture of the number of staff able to travel to school. When there is a low ratio of staff to pupils then a decision has to be made to close the school.

We appreciate that the late timing of a decision may cause inconvenience, but there is a balance between letting parents and carers know early about the position and not pre-emptively making a closure decision.

Should there be significant snow or bad driving conditions, please check our website. A decision will be made by 7.00 am at the very latest.

School closures during the day

In the event of the school closing due to worsening weather conditions during the school day necessitating closure, we will give as much notice as possible. Any pupils that have problems getting home should report to their class teacher.

Parents will be contacted by telephone and priority will be given to children who live the greatest distance from school. We will not allow pupils to leave the school site unless we are confident that parents are aware and approve of the arrangement.

OUR FIRST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS AND STAFF.

Parents are asked to work with the school to ensure that the pupils and staff try to get to school however only if it is safe to do so.
