"Addressing Racist Bullying in the Danish Schools: How Can We Protect Our Children?"

Writer's picture: ISIB BlogISIB Blog

In todays education media there was a very sad article concerning bullying in the Danish school system, it concerned the racist bullying of children by students and in some cases by staff!

The report by the Danish human rights association conducted by survey of 6 - 9 graders stated that just over half of all ethnic students had been bullied in school because of their race, colour, religion or culture. Rasmus Kjeldahl, director of Børns Vilkår (Children's Conditions), said;

"It is first and foremost the responsibility of the school management to prevent and combat all forms of bullying and to ensure a safe community and a good teaching environment,".

As an international school that prides itself on welcoming people from around the world it saddens me that such behaviour is endemic in the national system. As someone who has travelled the world and met many different people one thing has always stood out, the majority of people just want to live a happy and fulfilling life and within our school all forms of bullying are treated with zero tolerance. Whether this is online through social media, physical or otherwise. If your child suffers such actions then report it.

Edward Burke was credited with saying,

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Although it is believed he was not the first to use such a phrase it stands as true today as it did two hundred years ago. Don’t tolerate or accept it and never give in.
