Head of School
Tom was born in England, but has lived overseas since 2000. He has over twenty years’ teaching experience, and more than a decade of senior leadership experience in schools around the world.
Having completed his schooling in London, Tom taught English and African Literature as a volunteer in a local school in Tanzania, living on €1.50 a day, before studying Modern History and English at the University of Oxford. While at university, Tom spent one summer in the Gaza Strip teaching English to Palestinian refugees, and a second summer working with students in postwar Bosnia-Herzegovina. These experiences convinced Tom that teaching was the career for him. After graduating, Tom obtained his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and taught at a state school in England. In 2000 he returned to Tanzania to teach at the first African school to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB). Since then he has been a Head of Key Stage, a Deputy Headmaster, and a Head of School at schools in Qatar and Kazakhstan, before coming to Denmark in 2020.
Tom is delighted to be Head of School at International School Ikast-Brande, a small yet multicultural school with a family atmosphere, where children and adults alike can be themselves and fulfil their potential. Tom enjoys mountain climbing, mountain biking, and anything creative – especially music and art.
