Cambridge Lower Secondary
Cambridge Lower Secondary - Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary builds on the foundations established in primary education and supports learners as they transition into the next stage of their academic journey. Typically designed for learners aged 11 to 14, it provides a coherent and challenging curriculum that develops knowledge, understanding and skills in a structured and age-appropriate way, preparing students for progression through the Cambridge Pathway.

By offering Cambridge Lower Secondary, we ensure a broad and balanced educational experience that responds to the academic, social and emotional needs of early adolescents. Learners engage with a wide range of subjects, including English, Mathematics and Science, alongside opportunities to develop critical thinking, creativity and collaboration. The curriculum is carefully adapted to meet the needs of our learners, enabling them to explore ideas in greater depth while continuing to build confidence and independence.

Cambridge Lower Secondary places a strong emphasis on enquiry, reflection and personal responsibility for learning. Students are encouraged to question, analyse and apply their understanding across contexts, supporting both academic progress and personal growth. Wellbeing remains central, through our whole school ‘Jigsaw’ programme, with learning experiences designed to foster resilience, motivation and a positive sense of self.

Assessment during this phase uses structured descriptors to reflect learners’ developing understanding and readiness for the next stage of study. Students are encouraged to reflect on their progress, set goals and take increasing ownership of their learning, with wellbeing and personal development remaining central throughout early adolescence.

We encourage you to explore our Long-Term Plans below to gain a clearer understanding of how learning is sequenced and developed across each year group, ensuring continuity and progression for all learners. To gain further insight into the curriculum framework, you are also welcome to browse the Cambridge Lower Secondary brochure.
