International School Ikast-Brande
Cambridge Upper Secondary

Cambridge Upper Secondary (IGCSE)

Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) represents a highly respected and internationally recognised qualification for learners typically aged 14 to 16. It marks an important stage in a student’s educational journey, building on the foundations developed during lower secondary and preparing learners for further academic study, including A Levels, the IB Diploma or other post-16 pathways.

By offering Cambridge IGCSE, we provide a rigorous and flexible curriculum that balances academic challenge with breadth of learning. Students study a carefully selected range of subjects, including English, Mathematics and Science, alongside a range of other subjects that reflect their interests, strengths and future aspirations. Courses are adapted to meet the needs of our learners, enabling them to deepen subject knowledge while developing essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning.

Cambridge IGCSE places strong emphasis on applying knowledge in real-world contexts, encouraging learners to think analytically, communicate effectively and take responsibility for their own progress. Throughout the programme, student wellbeing is prioritised, through our whole school ‘Jigsaw’ programme, with structured support and guidance helping learners to manage increasing academic demands with confidence and resilience.

Assessment at this stage is carefully managed and evidence-informed, with grades reported cautiously to ensure accuracy and realistic expectations. Alongside academic achievement, we place strong emphasis on resilience, independence and effective study skills, ensuring that learners are well prepared for examinations and for life beyond school.

We invite you to explore our Long-Term Plans to gain a clearer understanding of how each subject is sequenced and developed across the IGCSE years, ensuring coherence and progression for all learners. For further information about the qualification and its global recognition, you are also welcome to browse the Cambridge IGCSE website
