Michael Murphy
English
Michael is originally from Cork in the south of Ireland. He holds a BA(Hons) degree in English and Geography and a Professional Master's Degree in Education (PME - English and Geography) from University College Cork. Reflecting his broader interests in questions of sustainability, conflict, and environment, Michael recently pursued a Master's in Human Security at Aarhus University where he focused on how communities adapt to a changing world. Over the years, travel has given him the opportunity to teach in Ireland, the UK, and now Denmark, where he has taught English and Geography to students across a range of levels and backgrounds. Michael has a real passion for both subjects - literature for the way it opens minds and conversations, and geography for the way it connects us to our environment and the wider world.
In his free time, he likes to read novels, discover new music, and attend sporting events - from rugby and football to cycling. He initally moved to Denmark with his partner, who works as an anthropologist at Aarhus University. They have lived here for five years, first in Copenhagen and more recently in Jutland. Michael has really enjoyed his time living in Denmark, and he especially appreciates the cycling culture and the balance between work and life - though the Danish language is still a work in progress for him!
