Reading is going down!

A survey by the Guardian newspaper has shown the continued decline in reading by all ages, in the higher grades 10 – 12 students may read as few as five or six books a year! The continued pressure of social media means that students get an instant hit from a video or online chat but don’t access the in depth enjoyment reading a book offers as they build the character in the mind and follow a story to its conclusion.

So, if you are thinking "what could I do this half term"? READ! Show kids that you also read, interest them in books and see if we can keep the generation reading. It is proven to reduce stress, improve concentration and focus, enhance vocabulary and even reduce Alzheimer’s disease.

My favourite book is The Hobbit by Tolkien and I read at least a book a week –on my Kindle!!!
